5 Fun Games To Play With Your Kids During Lockdown
During this unique time in our history, we’ve been faced with tremendous challenges. One of those is having our kids home with us all day, everyday; and, while it may seem overwhelming at times, it’s also a great opportunity to spend quality time with them. Below are just a few fun activities to try during this extra time at home.
Create a Treasure Hunt
A great physical activity that will allow your children to use their brains and burn some energy is a treasure hunt. Simply hide 10-20 items throughout the house or outside and have them find them. For additional fun, create a map or make clues to point them in the direction of their next item.
With multiple kids, consider making separate treasure hunts and have them race or compete to see who can find them the fastest. For an extra educational activity, have them write about their treasure hunt experience.
Break Out the Cards and Board Games
While it may be an obvious choice to play with cards and board games they have benefits beyond just the fun. Games like Uno, Monopoly, and even Go Fish can help children learn numbers, counting, adding, and even decision-making skills. Furthermore, these are activities the whole family can be involved in and are a great distraction from the television and tablets.
If you want to get really creative, have your children create their own board game. And, for an added level of fun, make games into tournaments, allowing the winner of each round to advance to the next level until there is a champion.
Play Bingo
Another fun activity for children of all ages is Bingo. Create a bingo sheet with reading books, chores, or other educational activities and once complete, the child can cover that square.
Then, when Bingo is reached, have small prizes or treats that the child enjoys.
Not only will this activity promote reading books or learning new activities and chores, it gives children a goal to work towards and a way to see their progress.
Hide and Seek
An additional game for the entire family is a good old-fashioned game of hide and seek. Whether playing inside or outside, see who can outlast the others by finding the best hiding spot.
Again, not only can the whole family play, but it is a great activity to burn some energy while being stuck at home. For an extra challenge, trying playing outside at night with only flashlights.
30-Day Lego Challenge
For the creative ones in the family, consider the 30-day Lego challenge. Parents can find resources online, or come up with a new object to build everyday for 30 days and challenge their kids to create it only out of Legos.
It can be an individual challenge or one between kids to see who can come up with the most unique piece. Either way, it’s an excellent exercise to get the creative juices flowing.
